Interior Design: What’s New for 2021

Interior Design: What’s New for 2021

Fall has arrived and so have next year’s trends. Read on to find out what’s new if you are the type who likes to follow fashion!

In 2021, rooms will be highly personalized: they should reflect the homeowner’s style. To accomplish this, start with a modern framework and add on the elements that speak to and of you. Here are some ideas!

1- Khaki Green

The colour of the hour is khaki green. While it is attractive in a paler tone, right now it is most commonly seen in darker shades. It is easy to incorporate into your decor as an item of furniture, a side table, a cushion, a curtain, a throw. You can also paint a feature wall in this colour or use it to revamp an old piece of wooden furniture. It is the perfect hue for creating a chic and intimate ambiance.

2— Shell Shapes

The boldest will no doubt want to adopt the shell fad for their interiors. This trend mostly consists of shell-shaped designs in furniture, such as a bulky velvet chair with a shell-like back or a shell-inspired headboard. Give your home an original retro vibe.

3- Dark Colour Schemes

It would seem that darker palettes are making a comeback. The results are less light and bright, but warmer and more inviting. Deep rich colours such as midnight blue, brown and reddish orange should be sparingly integrated into the decor. Floors, walls and accessories … will you dare to go dark?

4— Mixing Materials

To give a room more personality, mix the finishes. Focus on bringing together various textures. For example, imagine a living room that contains velvet curtains, a gold-framed mirror, a plush carpet, a wooden coffee table, a faux-fur throw, and two cushions, one of wool and the other of cotton.

5— Ceramic Pottery

Pushed to the sidelines in recent years, pottery is back in the limelight to beautify our homes. The hottest options are pieces with a porous or matte finish. Decorative bowls and vases are the most popular ways of bringing this texture into a decor. Accessories in this material can be used, on the one hand, to give a classic touch to a room, or the other, opulence.

6- Cream-Coloured Shearling

As you browse online furniture stores, you’ll see that sofas and chairs upholstered in cream-coloured shearling are everywhere. We like how it cozies up a room and the softness of its colour. This trend is suitable for all types of decor styles.

7- Metals

Proud representatives of the 2020 trend for raw materials, these two metals will take over our interiors in 2021. They are gold (or imitation!) and brass. They give a room just enough solemnity. You will find them used in lamp bases, as furniture accents, as decorative vases or in distinctive works of art.

8— Naïve Drawings

Another interior design trend that will not go unnoticed in 2021 is childlike motifs in the style of naïve art. Choose works that embrace this painting style or accessories (vase, cushion, blanket) covered in these simplistic patterns.

Aren’t next year’s decor trends inspiring? Which one will you try out in your home?
